HORIZON LEAGUE Butler cruises past Wayne State, 60-37



Wright State won big, but Wisc.-Milwaukee squeaked by Mississippi Valley State.

INDIANAPOLIS-- Joel Cornette scored 14 points to lead Butler to a 60-37 victory over Wayne State Tuesday night.
Cornette and Duane Lightfoot, who added 10 points, scored 15 of the Bulldogs' (2-0) first 21 points, and they opened up a 21-4 lead on two Lightfoot free throws.
The Wildcats (2-1) went on a 14-7 run to close the gap to 28-20 just before the half, when Justin Chapman hit a field goal with a little more than a minute remaining. Butler scored five more points to close out the half after a Mike Monserez 3-point play. Monserez contributed eight points in a 15-0 run, and Wayne State couldn't get close after that.
The Bulldogs led by 28 points with 5:35 remaining in the fourth quarter after Lewis Curry hit a 3-pointer. Chapman led Wayne State with eight points, hitting a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Lightfoot also contributed eight rebounds for Butler.
Wright St. 85, Cedarville 64
DAYTON -- Seth Doliboa scored 28 points in a little over a half to lead Wright State.
Vernard Hollins added 17 points for Wright State (2-0).
Josh Gast led Cedarville (3-3) with 21 points, and Barry Chamberlain had 11.
Wright State took control early, shooting 60 percent (18-of-30) from the field in the first half en route to a 51-22 lead at halftime. The Raiders were almost as hot in the second half, and finished shooting 57 percent for the game.

MILWAUKEE -- Dylan Page scored 17 points to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Nate Mielke and Jason Frederick added 14 points each, and Ronnie Jones had 12 points to help the Panthers (1-1) win their home opener.
D'Jamel Jackson led the Delta Devils with 21 points, and Michael Archie added 19.
UW-Milwaukee broke a 57-57 tie with just over seven minutes left to play to put the Panthers ahead for good in the game.
Edward Mack made a layup with 15.6 seconds to pull the Devils within a basket at 77-75 but failed to get another point the rest of the way.
The Delta Devils (0-1) had stormed back to lead 54-53 after a 15-2 run capped by three free throws by Jackson.
