Probing man's death
CAMPBELL -- A Poland man is dead after he slumped over the wheel of the van he was driving and it crashed into a utility pole. It's not certain what caused his death, and the Mahoning County Coroner's office is investigating. Roy Wilson, 68, of North Lima Road, was eastbound on Coitsville Road when he slumped over the wheel and the van left the road and hit the pole at Neoka Drive at about 1 p.m., his passenger, Thomas Cunningham, 66, of Everett East Road, Hubbard Township, told police. Police said Wilson was unresponsive when they arrived. Both men were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where Cunningham was in guarded condition Friday. The crash caused 163 Ohio Edison customers, including some businesses on McCartney Road, to lose electric power Friday afternoon. Ohio Edison restored power to 86 customers by 2:05 p.m. Power was to be restored to the remaining customers before midnight Friday, said Paul Harkey, OE area manager.

Police said Louise Stone of Croton Avenue was found on the ground on the 1100 block of Croton Avenue near Vine Street at 6:33 p.m. Thursday. She appeared to be badly injured with an obvious fractured arm, police said. Police said there were no witnesses, but they did find glass, plastic and a vehicle's side mirror on the road near Stone. Police said they later found an abandoned blue Toyota pickup truck in a parking lot at the corner of Croton Avenue and Cascade Street with front-end damage identical to the debris found on the road. Police said the truck's driver later called to say he was turning himself in to police. He told police he thought he had hit a dog.
