NHL Montreal defeats Pens in overtime

The Penguins are winless in their last seven games.
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Jean-Sebastien Aubin played one of the best games by an opposing goalie against Montreal this season, sprawling and sliding to make a succession of big saves.
Even as Aubin stopped 32 shots from a variety of angles, he came up one save short. Just as his Pittsburgh Penguins came up a goal short in overtime against Montreal for the second time in three nights.
"Aubin was fantastic for them," Montreal coach Michel Therrien said after the Canadiens' 3-2 overtime victory Wednesday night. "If it weren't for him, it would have been a different scenario and a different game."
It was a much different game than Montreal's 5-4 victory Monday. That night, only one goal by either team -- Donald Audette's winner -- came at even strength.
In the second game of the home-and-home series, there were long stretches of inactivity interrupted by flurries of saves by Aubin and one quick burst in which Montreal scored twice.
On a roll
Montreal won its third in a row and its fifth in seven games.
"We really concentrated on playing well in our zone and it started from there," the Canadiens' Joe Juneau said. "Their goalie made some great saves -- I can think of six or seven great saves he made."
Shortly after Aubin spread his arms out to block a potential winning shot by Saku Koivu, Andrei Markov scored the decisive goal. Markov dangled the puck on his stick as he skated across the slot before beating Aubin with a hard wrist shot from the edge of the left circle at 2:25 of overtime.
Yanic Perreault and Richard Zednik scored 38 seconds apart in the second period to give Montreal a 2-1 lead that lasted only 21/2 minutes, until Jan Hrdina got his second of the game. Mario Lemieux set up both Pittsburgh goals.
The Penguins are winless in seven games -- 0-3-2-2 -- during a slump that has dropped them into the middle of the Eastern Conference pack despite their 7-2-2 start.
