CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Jon Frazier gained 179 of Western Kentucky's 390 rushing yards Saturday and scored two touchdowns, as the Hilltoppers routed Southern Illinois 48-16.
Western Kentucky (9-3, 6-1 Gateway Conference) took a 14-3 lead early in the second quarter on Jeremi Johnson's 61-yard run, and made it 20-3 at the half on Frazier's 23-yard scoring run.
Western then put the game away in the third quarter on Jason Michael's 20-yard run and a 67-yard pass from Michael to Casey Rooney, one of Michael's three pass completions in the game.
Michael, who rushed for 76 yards, added a 1-yard TD run in the final quarter.
Southern Illinois (4-8, 2-5) was out-gained 478-280 in total yards. Brandon Robinson rushed for 115 yards to lead the Salukis.
Western Illinois 38, S. Utah 28
CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Russ Michna threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns as Western Illinois beat Southern Utah.
Attley Lawson had 149 rushing yards on 28 carries for the Leathernecks (10-1), who gained 399 yards of offense. Lawson's 31-yard touchdown run with 5:25 remaining sealed it for Western Illinois, ranked fifth in Division I-AA.
Southern Utah (1-9) lost its ninth straight despite gaining 466 yards. Quarterback Charles Henderson rushed for 159 yards on 25 carries and threw for 103 yards for the Thunderbirds, who had four turnovers.
The Thunderbirds pulled within a field goal early in the fourth quarter with an 11-play 80-yard drive, which Henderson ended with a 3-yard touchdown run. Derek Niggemeier cut the lead to three on a two-point conversion run.
Michna hit Terrance Hall for a 34-yard touchdown with 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give the Leathernecks a 31-20 lead.
Southern Utah nearly led 14-7 at halftime, but Western Illinois' Stacy Coleman caught a tipped pass in the end zone on a fourth-and-2 from the 27 to tie it with 1:17 left in the second quarter.
Illinois St. 20, Indiana St. 12
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Vito Golson caught seven passes for 136 yards and one touchdown as Illinois State defeated Indiana State.
The Redbirds (6-5, 4-3 Gateway) outscored the Sycamores 17-0 in the second half. Golson had two catches for 42 yards, including a 15-yard scoring pass from Kevin Zouzounis.
The Redbirds recovered an Indiana State fumble to start a 53-yard drive capped by Quincy Washington's 7-yard touchdown run as the Redbirds took a 17-12 lead.
Washington netted 74 yards rushing and Zouzounis passed for 117 yards.
Soso Dede tallied the first touchdown on a 3-yard run and Chris Lewis caught a 5-yard pass from Julian Reese to put the Sycamores (5-7, 3-4) ahead 12-0.
Illinois State's first-half points came on Stephen Carroll's 25-yard field with 45 seconds remaining in the half. Carroll added a 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for the final points.
Reese completed 18-of-26 passes for 152 yards and rushed for 47 yards for the Sycamores.
N. Iowa 25, SW Missouri St. 24
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Mackenize Hoambrecker kicked a school-record 59-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining in his final game.
Hoambrecker's fourth field goal of the game gave Northern Iowa (5-6, 2-5 Gateway) the win.
Southwest Missouri State (4-7, 1-6) took a 24-16 lead on Michael White's third touchdown pass, a 26-yarder to Tony Hill with 1:02 remaining in the third quarter. But the Bears did not make a first down after that and NIU rallied.
