Open house planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- The new Southside Community Technology Center, operated by Meridian Services, will have an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at 550 W. Chalmers Ave.
The center is inside the Homeless Solutions office behind the Salvation Army on Glenwood Avenue.
City residents, especially on the South Side, have access to the center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The center provides vocational development classes and an after-school program. Beginner and intermediate computer classes will be offered soon.
The center is funded with a grant from the Community Technology Fund of Ohio.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Family and Children First Council has an open seat on its executive committee for a family representative for a term from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2005.
Those interested should call the council office at (330) 965-7828 by Nov. 20 to receive a nomination packet. Packets must be returned by Dec. 2 and an election will be during the Dec. 5 annual meeting of the council.
The position is unpaid; meetings of the council are at 1:30 p.m. on the third Friday of each month.
A physician will provide checkups, cancer screenings, blood pressure screenings, health information and referrals.
Craft fair scheduled
BURTON -- The second annual Returning Adult Scholarship Craft Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Kent State University Geauga campus, 14111 Claridon-Troy Road, next to the county fair grounds.
A $1 admission ticket goes toward a door prize raffle.
Besides handmade crafts, foods and gifts, the event features a visit by Santa Claus, raffle and refreshment area.
Proceeds collected provide scholarships to adult students.
Last year's event raised a total of $1,200 for three students.
