SOCCER Strongsville nets second Div. 1 title



Bay Village Bay won the Division II state championship.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- Stefanie Riediger and Kelly Constantino each had a goal and an assist, as Strongsville beat Cincinnati St. Ursula 3-1 Saturday to win its second Division I soccer championship.
Riediger one-timed a shot from 12 yards out to give the Mustangs (18-3-2) a 2-1 lead early in the second half. Nicole Primmer assisted on the play.
Constantino opened the scoring in the seventh minute off an assist by Riediger.
Constantino headed a pass inside the box to Tiffany Horvath, to set up Strongsville's final goal in the 57th minute. Horvath sent a left-footed shot inside the far post.
Fallon injured
Strongsville captain Molly Fallon was knocked unconscious after a collision with Megan Ortner in the 8th minute. Fallon was alert after being taken off the field on a stretcher, but did not return.
Just seconds later, the Bulldogs (13-5-5) scored their only goal when Betsy Jacobs collected a loose ball in the box and scored to tie the game at 1.
Strongsville won its first title in 1998. St. Ursula won championships in 1991 and 1993.
Division II
Lisbee Barth scored a first half goal from 24 yards out as the Bay Village Bay beat Cincinnati Wyoming 3-0 to win the Division II soccer championship.
Barth took at pass from Molly Sweeney and sent a shot into the upper right corner past goalkeeper Abby Mowry to put the Rockets up 1-0 in the 24th minute.
Elise Falatach scored on a 50-yard free kick in the 52nd minute. Falatach's shot bounced once about 13 yards in front the goal and over Mowry's head and into the net.
Angela Sanson added a goal with 26 second remaining.
The Cowboys were out-shot 15-7 and 7-0 in shots on goal. Rocket goalkeeper Allie Zajaros did not have to make a save.
Bay also won the state championship in 1999.
