MERCER Masury man who fought with cops receives sentence of up to 15 years

A Sharon man was sentenced for felony criminal trespassing.
MERCER, Pa. -- A Masury, Ohio, man will serve up to 15 years in prison for criminal trespassing and assaulting a police officer, among other charges.
On Thursday, Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Wherry sentenced Michael Redmond, 31, of North State Line Road, to 27 months to 15 years for offenses committed earlier this year. Redmond pleaded guilty to felony charges of criminal trespass and aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, loitering/prowling at night, terroristic threats, receiving stolen property and escape.
The aggravated assault conviction stems from a July 23 encounter in which Redmond fought Sharon police officers who were trying to restrain him, cutting an officer's hand and striking his knee.
There were two criminal trespassing episodes, in February and May. Redmond admitted breaking into a residence on Bolde Drive, Hermitage, on Feb. 25. On May 28, Redmond entered a garage next to a home on Orangeville Road, West Salem Township. When the owner's relatives discovered Redmond there, he said he was inquiring about a job. After he left, they discovered tools were missing. When the owner made inquiries, he got at least three harassing phone calls from Redmond, according to court documents.
The other charges stem from Redmond's threat May 28 to kill a woman if she pursued charges against him, from fighting with another man while police officers were handcuffing him for loitering near a Canal Street, Wheatland, residence that day, for stealing two toolboxes and miscellaneous items from a Wheatland residence May 28, and for repeatedly disrupting his May 27 arraignment with vulgar language and then running from the courtroom in an attempt to escape.
