EASTERN ALL-STARS Eight E. Liverpool players named first team district

COLUMBUS -- Division II playoff qualifier East Liverpool had eight first team selections, and Bob Thayer was named coach of the year, on the Associated Press Eastern All-District high school football teams.
The Potters (8-3), who play Avon Lake in a regional semifinal Friday, had five defensive players named to the first team: linemen Dan Suznevion and Andre Dawson, linebacker Chris Green, and defensive backs Justin Campbell and Andrew Evans.
On offense, linemen Ryan Davis and Kris Simmons, and kicker Jared Zirillo were named to the first team.
Beaver Local standouts
In Div. III, Beaver Local had five players named to the first team: offensive lineman Jared Williams, running back Jordan Williams, defensive linemen Adam Hoppel and Bill Beebout, and linebacker Jake Robinson.
Wellsville had four players named to the Div. VI first team: receiver Shayne Rose, offensive lineman Brandon Adams, linebacker Josh Tranter and defensive back Mark LaScola.
Coshocton's Doori Song, who rushed for 1,464 yards this season, was the Div. IV offensive player of the year. Martins Ferry linebacker Shawn Waleisky was the defensive player of the year in Div. IV. His coach, Dave Bruney, shared the coach of the year award with Coshocton's Marty Arganbright.
The remaining offensive players of the year were: New Philadelphia running back Chase Hostetler in Div. II; running back Ashley Smith of Dover and quarterback Caleb Meyer of Richmond Edison Local (III); Woodsfield Monroe Central running back Christopher Wilson and Steubenville Catholic Central quarterback Steve Spence (V); and Strasburg-Franklin running back Tyler Dreher (VI).
Defensive picks
The defensive honorees were Carrollton linebacker Chad Hoobler (II); Richmond Edison Local linebacker Steve Potkrajac (III); Woodsfield Monroe Central defensive back Gabe Gordon (V); and Strasburg-Franklin linebacker Travis Dreher (VI).
The other top coaches were Dave Everson of Richmond Edison Local (III); Jay Circosta of Woodsfield Monroe Central and Old Washington Buckeye Trail's Randy Thompson (V); and Strasburg-Franklin's Ron Hurst (VI).
