WASHINGTON -- Jason Kidd scored 18 points as the New Jersey Nets beat the Washington Wizards to improve to 3-0. In an early matchup of teams expected to contend for the Atlantic Division title, the Nets had five players score in double figures as they pulled away with a 19-7 run in the fourth quarter. Michael Jordan finished with 21 points in 27 minutes for Washington.
Pacers 87, Timberwolves 80
INDIANAPOLIS -- Brad Miller scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, and Jermaine O'Neal had 21 points and 14 rebounds as Indiana beat Minnesota. Jonathan Bender added 15 points and 11 rebounds and Ron Artest had 14 points for the Pacers, who bounced back from a loss to New Jersey on Friday. O'Neal, Miller and Bender helped the Pacers to a 56-42 rebounding advantage.
Celtics 117, Knicks 107
NEW YORK -- Paul Pierce scored 46 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, as Boston bounced back from the worst loss in franchise history by beating New York. Pierce finished two points shy of his career high set last season, scoring 14 of Boston's final 20 points.
Kings 116, Grizzlies 99
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Vlade Divac had 24 points and nine assists to lead Sacramento over Memphis. Bobby Jackson scored 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, and Hedo Turkoglu added 22 off the bench as six Sacramento players scored in double figures. The Kings had little trouble with the Grizzlies despite playing without starters Mike Bibby and Chris Webber.
Hawks 98, Bulls 92
ATLANTA -- Glenn Robinson became the first Atlanta player to score 30 points in three straight games to start a season, and the Hawks beat Chicago. Robinson had 30 points and Jason Terry added 23 as the Hawks opened with their first 2-1 start in three years. Jalen Rose scored 24 points for Chicago.
Hornets 100, Heat 95
NEW ORLEANS -- Jamal Mashburn scored 35 points and grabbed eight rebounds against his former team to lead the New Orleans Hornets to victory over the Miami Heat. Mashburn hit a key jumper near the top of the key and sank a foul shot in the final minute to stave off an inspired comeback attempt by the Heat.
Rockets 88, Raptors 76
HOUSTON -- Steve Francis scored 28 points and Yao Ming provided some entertaining moments in his home debut as the Houston Rockets beat the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors played most of the game without guard Vince Carter, who left with 6:17 to go in the first quarter with a strained right knee and did not return.
Mavericks 97, Suns 83
DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki scored 22 points and Michael Finley scored eight of his 17 points during a third-quarter run that sent the Dallas Mavericks past the Phoenix Suns. Steve Nash added 15 points and eight assists, but the Mavericks' home opener was marred by starter Raef LaFrentz spraining his right ankle early in the third quarter. He did not return.
Magic 100, Bucks 90
MILWAUKEE -- Tracy McGrady helped Orlando make it look as if it were the Milwaukee Bucks and not the Magic who were playing their fourth game in five nights. McGrady scored 47 points as the Magic (3-1) snapped an eight-game losing streak at the Bradley Center with a 100-90 victory over the Bucks (0-2).
Jazz 101, Warriors 92
SALT LAKE CITY -- Karl Malone scored 26 points as the Utah Jazz beat the Golden State Warriors to avoid their first 0-3 start since 1979. John Stockton added 15 points and seven assists as the Jazz defeated the Warriors for the 24th time in their last 25 meetings. After Matt Harpring's follow shot made it 92-77 with 5:32 left in the game, the Jazz let their guard down.
