Teen steals boy's candy
AUSTINTOWN -- An 8-year-old trick-or-treater who was out with friends at 7:45 p.m. Thursday was assaulted by a 16- to 18-year-old boy who stole his candy, police reports show.
The younger boy was near the intersection of Meanderwood Drive and Berry Blossom Avenue when he was approached by the sombrero-wearing thief, who picked him up, yelled profanities in his face, spun him around and ran off with the candy that was in a pillow case, police said.
Cash stolen from home
GREEN -- A house in the 8300 block of Calla Road was burglarized Thursday and a sizable amount of cash taken from a desk, according to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department.
The homeowners discovered the crime about noon, when they returned home and found the back door wide open and its window smashed.
3 teenagers arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two teenagers from The Rayen School, each accused of assaulting a teacher, and a teen from Hillman Middle School who had a knife spent Halloween at the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.
At Rayen, the arrests of a 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl followed attacks on teachers who broke up fights, police said.
At Hillman, a 14-year-old girl was arrested after police found the knife in her jacket pocket.
Touring Struthers High
STRUTHERS -- Area residents will get their last chance to walk the halls of Struthers High School, slated for demolition once the new school is complete, during the Struthers Rotary Club's annual pancake breakfast.
The breakfast will be Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under. Proceeds benefit the Rotary's college scholarship program.
The school will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monitors will be stationed on each floor to provide information.
Food drive for mission
LOWELLVILLE -- A food drive for the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley will be at the Dr. Ronald J. Ruscitti Chiropractic Clinic (King Health Center) through November.
Donations of canned foods and other items can be made at the office at 146 S. Stateline Road. Additional supplies of peanut butter, jellies and cereals also are needed.
During the week of Nov. 18-22, new patients who make a contribution will receive a free chiropractic examination that includes postural, orthopedic and neurological exams, vital signs and up to two X-rays if needed, a $140 value.
