Deliberating club officers to serve two-year terms

Two scholarships are awarded each year by the club.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The election and installation of officers who will head The Robert's Deliberating Club for the next two years was a highlight of an Oct. 19 meeting held at Crandall Field House.
Inducted during a ceremony conducted by the Rev. Calvin Turner were Raymond Butler, president; Edgar Giddens, first vice president; Ron Perry, second vice president; Thomas R. Gross, secretary; James E. Washington, treasurer; George Williams, financial secretary; J.B. Williams, corresponding secretary; and Lawrence Thomas Jr., chaplain.
Formed in the Mahoning Valley in 1920, the club is an African-American male social club. Its purpose is to study Robert's Rules of Order and to afford members intellectual growth.
The club participates in civic, social and fraternal matters, and each year awards the Walker-Fleming Scholarship for study at Youngstown State University and The Robert's Deliberating Club Scholarship for study at a historically black college or university.
Membership is limited to 25, and those who have been active for 30 years are honored with lifetime status.
