Struthers St. Anthony's 5, Canfield L. Calvin Jones 2 -- Steven Streb struck out 11, yielding just four hits. Troy Gessner homered for Canfield.
Salem VFW 10, Poland Financial 4 -- Josh Dankovich went 3-for-4 and scored twice while Corey Rickman scored three times. Matt Ceavarella had two hits for Poland.
Struthers St. Anthony's 11, Quint's Auto Body 2 -- Ryan Gruber and Chris Anzevino each had two hits. Ryan Orosz had two hits, one a triple, for Quint's.
Blue Cross 8, Salem Eljer 3 -- Patrick Bellish had a two-run homer to break up a tie game. Paul Ruchtie had three hits and three RBIs. For Salem, Ben Miller doubled.
Salem VFW 6, Niles Shultz S.C. 1 -- Corey Rickman and Trevin Wood combined for a three-hitter. Sean McKee went 3-for- 4, Josh Dankovich had two hits and Rickman, Ryan Donlon, Steven Brown, Gregg Shadle and Dan Anderson all added hits. McKee and Shadle had doubles. For Niles Shultz, Crisp had two hits including a triple and scored his team's only run while Griffith got a base hit and pitched a complete game.
Struthers Gridiron 11, Springfield Kennedy Oil 0 -- Jim Matricardi struck out seven while tossing a three-hitter while Mike Duponty gunned down two baserunners. Duponty had a single and double, Adam Wilaj had a pair of singles, Jim Sodeman doubled and Dave Yash, Matt Wilson, Chris Kadvan and Randall Vecchio had key singles. For Springfield, Tom Hankinson and John Martin both singled and Bob Houser doubled.
Boardman GF Insulation 8, Niles Shultz's Service Center 6 -- Marty Oravec recorded seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings, while Hustin Hodges came in to get the save and also five strikeouts. Ryan James and Nick Savage each had three hits while Braxton Forde and Joey Suslczysk added two hits apiece, to lead the winners. Catcher Ryan Rosati registered two outs at home plate while Steven Vrabel came up with the team's first double play, to star on defense.
SOFTBALL
Valley Sting -- defeated Akron Ice Orange 5-4 in the championship game and finished undefeated (5-0) in the 12-under NSA Tournament. Markie Pozzuto threw a one-hitter in the title game and Caitlyn Youngs went 4-for-4. Youngs struck out 23 and won twice while Pozzuto had three wins, struck out 36 and had a no-hitter. The two were the team's MVPs.
The Valley Sting Purple team went 5-0 to win the 14-U championship of the Lady Spartan softball tournament. Allie Patton had six hits including a homer while Jaclyn Carpenter threw a three-hitter in the semifinal and Kasey Karr threw a one-hitter in the championship game. The team defeated the Thunderbolts Black 8-1, Ohio Jaguars 7-0, Ohio Emeralds 5-4, Ohio Ice Blue 2-0 and Thunderbolts White 11-2.
