Officials to inspect Struthers apartments

STRUTHERS -- On Friday city officials will inspect improvements made to the Spring Street Apartments.
Steel worker Scott Nevel, 41, bought the 34-unit apartment complex early this year and agreed to make significant improvements.
The deadline for completing improvements to the exterior of the buildings was Tuesday. That was extended, said Mayor Dan Mamula, because bad weather has postponed some of the work. But Nevel has been making steady progress, he said.
Before Nevel began renovating the exterior of the building, he was to have renovated nine occupied apartments.
Among the improvements mandated were repair of a porch roof and securing an unoccupied building.
The former owner of the apartment complex, Kim Stocker, had pleaded no contest to three building code violations pertaining to the apartment complex.
